President's Message

This year's conference theme, "Educating Ourselves For A Change," focuses on the need to educate ourselves as technologists in a faster than ever changing technology world. To assist with that education, your CEDPA board of directors has assembled a conference program that we feel is rich in technology experiences. Four breakout session strands cover the areas of Technical Focus, Support Issues, Ed Tech/IS Issues, and Private Sector Partners. Also returning to this year's conference is the ever-popular Internet Room. This room will again demonstrate integrated network connectivity for both local and wide area networks and the Internet.

Our conference will feature main speakers that have important messages to share with us. Dr. Glynn D. Ligon, president of Evaluation Software Publishing, Incorporated (ESP), and formerly the executive director of management information for the Austin Independent School District (AISD), will deliver the CEDPA Conference keynote address, "Managing Education Information In The 00's Without Oh-Oh's." Dr. Ligon will explore the challenges and impact of changes that relate to cyberforms and data warehouses. The Honorable Sandra Tiffany, Assemblywoman from Clark County, Nevada, the fastest-growing school district in the U.S., will deliver our Thursday noontime address. Kent Keel of the Kent School District in Washington (state) will share his educational-related experiences with us on Friday.

We've enhanced our breakout session schedule to provide more interactive discussion panels for your benefit. Panels will be conducted on Thursday and Friday and will feature school agency and industry experts discussing issues about School System Implementation, Networking and Future School Computing, the State Account Code Structure, and E-Rate.

Our vendor show promises to be bigger and better. Come see the new products and services offered by our veteran exhibitors and newcomers alike. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Last year's first annual golf tournament was a huge success, so we're repeating it once again. Due to daylight savings time this year's tournament will be a 9-hole, scramble tournament. NCompass Systems, Inc., is underwriting a major portion of the tournament and will provide complimentary $35 registration fees for the first thirty full-conference attendees to sign up.

You can't afford to miss this year's conference because of the education and professional networking opportunities it will bring. Educational technology, Year 2000 issues, Help Desks, and E-Rate are all important issues that will be discussed at our conference. See you there!
