A District Model for Data Consolidation and Analysis Using The Learning Legend

This workshop will demonstrate how the Hueneme School District uses a software solution to consolidate data from multiple nonconforming sources (e.g., attendance, classroom, district, and state test databases) into a single application for demographic and achievement analysis and reporting. This model supports the strengths of traditional SIS systems, while providing the benefit of flexability and power for site, district, and public reporting; program evaluation; and legal compliance.

Building the Phantom Tollbooth: Checkpoint Firewall-1/VPN-1 as an Internet Gateway

The process of designing and implementing a firewalled internet gateway. Encompasses a brief introductory discussion of Checkpoint Firewall-1 deployment and a description of the actual Checkpoint VPN-1 deployment. Includes an introduction to public-key and symmetric encryption, a brief discussion of standards-based key exchange and encryption, and a discussion of the challenges of providing windows network logon through a standards-based (IKE/IPSec) VPN tunnel with mobile users and off-the-shelf endpoint hardware.

An Open Source Initiative for Student and Business Administration Software in K-adult

The Hacienda La Puente Unified School District has developed and deployed a K-12 and Adult education student information system and is preparing to deploy a business administration system in January 2002. These systems are being made available to California public K-12 institutions as part of an open source initiative for free. This session will provide a brief demonstration of these systems followed by a discussion on architecture, licensing and support.
