   DataBus - Vol 40 No 6: October-November, 2000

President's Corner

A year has come and gone, and it's conference time again. I'd like to take a moment to thank the board, as they truly have been a great a team to work with. Each director has done an excellent job in preparing for CEDPA's 40th conference and keeping our membership informed throughout the year on topics of interest in K-12 technology.

With this year's enhanced breakout schedule and feature sessions, our tracks cover a broader spectrum of educational technology than ever before. The Network Operation Center, wired and wireless, covers topics from network security to server-based computing. And the vendor show is bigger and better than ever. A special thanks goes to our colleagues and vendors, as they are what really makes the content of the conference exciting and informative.

Over the last year, we focused on virtual learning environments. We heard about innovations up and down the state where districts and schools are making significant differences in student learning with the use of technology. We kept up to date with E-rate and learned better ways to ensure that California gets its share. And finally, we got a glimpse of the Digital California Project and the promise that Internet II holds.

I can only imagine what next year will bring, but I can definitely tell you it has been a pleasure to serve on the CEDPA board. As with whatever next year brings, you can bet that this group will grab hold of it and make the most of it for the important student population it serves.
