Corporation for Educational Network Initiatives in California
CENIC's mission is to facilitate and coordinate the development, deployment, and operation of a set of advanced communications services for education and research organizations in California based on the newest Internet technology.
Five Goals of DCP/CENIC
1. Extend existing education networks to create a powerful communications infrastructure for every California school.
2. Provide support needed to sustain a high-performance statewide education backbone network.
3. Facilitate working relationships between California's K-12 and the higher education.
4. Enable educator’s access to the tools needed to prepare students for the dynamic knowledge economy.
5. Facilitate access to rich resources and exciting new educational program available throughout the Internet.
Content
Access to networked information resources to reach K-12 educators and students with on-line programs and  services.
HDTV quality transmission, interactivity, realistic virtual objects and presence, Tele-immersion and Telescience for education and research.
New generations of on-line resources can enrich and enhance education at all levels and help to ensure that California has a highly trained workforce into the future.
Content
Higher education actively engaged in programs with K-12 to improve academic performance and preparation for college.
Industry is in involved with K-12 in a number of projects to better prepare students for the workforce.
Higher education and industry provisioning K-12 schools to meet future workforce needs. Continual preparation and refreshing of a knowledgeable citizenry and a  highly skilled and creative workforce.
